Porsche Tuning and a Moment of Artistry

Witnessing an Artist in Motion and Precision.

Collaboration

We were invited to showcase the Moment chair at the RWB Kuzig Glanz Detailing build recently. RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF (RWB) is a famous tuning company for Porsches in Japan, run by Nakai-san.

I was already familiar with Nakai-san, but Tetsuma, the Japanese designer of the Moment chair, had not heard of him. We made a special edition of the Moment chair in leather in various Porsche colours.

Royal Treatment

In return, we were treated like royalty during the event by Ronald and Ray, the owners of Kuzig Glanz Detailing. The barriers were opened for us to get closer to the build, and we were offered coffee and free rein to walk around.

We could tell how busy Ronald was, but he still took time to check if we were being taken care of.

In The Zone

It was so interesting to see Nakai-san at work. He is like an artist and has such a strong persona—dare I say it, not very Japanese. He spent much time sitting and contemplating his next move and did not really engage or talk very much.

An Unexpected Moment

At one point, he suddenly decided to start grinding the roof panel right next to someone who was eating his lunch, not warning him in advance of what was going to happen.

Like I said, a typical Japanese person might have apologised profusely or just waited until the person had finished eating. Carbon fibre dust on your chicken rice, anybody?

Personal Touch

Nakai-san is so very talented and was so in the zone. Tetsuma mentioned it was remarkable that all the work was done by Nakai-san personally; he didn’t delegate any of the work to others, except for a small bit of cutting by the car owner.
